A series of alarming swatting incidents have targeted conservative commentators and journalists almost every night since March 11. These events have raised serious concerns about safety and the motivations behind such actions. The FBI and other officials have classified these incidents as acts of domestic terrorism and attempted murder.
Swatting involves making a false emergency call to police, claiming there’s a violent situation at a specific address. This can lead to armed SWAT teams showing up at the homes of unsuspecting individuals. Such situations can escalate quickly and have resulted in tragic outcomes in the past.
Since the wave of swatting began, at least 15 conservative figures have reported being victims. The first known incident occurred on March 11 when InfoWars reporter Chase Geiser was confronted by police outside his home. Officers had received a call claiming Geiser was threatening his family. He was handcuffed and taken inside, where he learned the call was a hoax.
The following night, independent journalist Nick Sortor reported that his family experienced a similar ordeal. After receiving a threatening email, police arrived at his home, believing his father was in danger. Sortor described the situation as "literal terrorism" and called for the FBI to take action.
The incidents continued to escalate, with conservative commentator Gunther Eagleman also being swatted. He shared his experience on social media, noting that police quickly realized the report was false and praised their response.
Joe Pagliarulo, a radio host, and other commentators like Shawn Farash and Walter Curt shared their own harrowing experiences of being swatted. Many reported receiving unsolicited pizza deliveries shortly after the swatting incidents, which seemed to be a common tactic among the attackers.
Officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi, have expressed their concern over the rising trend of swatting incidents. Patel stated that the FBI is committed to investigating these dangerous acts and holding those responsible accountable.
The motivations behind these attacks remain unclear, but some victims believe they are linked to political commentary, particularly regarding Ukraine. Rep. Andy Ogles and other lawmakers have condemned the swatting as an attempt to silence conservative voices, calling it political violence.
As these incidents continue, victims are calling for stronger measures to prevent such attacks and protect individuals from this form of intimidation. The situation reflects a troubling trend in political discourse, where fear tactics are being used against those with opposing views.
