Poll: Democratic Party Approval Ratings Hit Record Low

A recent CNN poll reveals that the Democratic Party is facing a significant drop in support, with its favorability rating plummeting to just 29%. This marks the party’s lowest rating since CNN started tracking these numbers in 1992. The decline has been attributed to dissatisfaction among its own supporters, many of whom feel let down by their leaders.

The poll, conducted by SSRS from March 6 to March 9, 2025, shows that a majority of Democrats and those aligned with the party believe their leadership is heading in the wrong direction. Specifically, 52% of respondents feel that the party’s leaders are not effectively representing their interests. This sentiment represents a stark shift from just eight years ago, when views on party leadership were more favorable.

Interestingly, the poll highlights a growing desire among Democrats to adopt a more confrontational stance against the Republican agenda. Currently, 57% of Democrats prefer to focus on opposing Republican initiatives rather than seeking bipartisan cooperation. This is a significant change from 2017, when a large majority of 74% favored working with Republicans to advance their own priorities.

When asked about who best represents the core values of the Democratic Party, many respondents struggled to name a leader. Only a small percentage mentioned figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Kamala Harris, or Bernie Sanders. Alarmingly, over 30% of those surveyed couldn’t name anyone at all, with some expressing frustration that “no one” came to mind.

The Republican Party, in contrast, holds a favorability rating of 36%, which, while not overwhelmingly positive, is higher than that of the Democrats. This disparity in support underscores the challenges facing the Democratic Party as it tries to regroup and find a strong leader to counter the rising influence of President Donald Trump.

Overall, the poll indicates a growing disillusionment among Democrats, who are increasingly frustrated with their party’s direction and leadership. As the political landscape evolves, the Democratic Party will need to address these concerns to regain support from its base and the wider public.
