VIDEO: "She Deserves All the Treats": Rhode Island Dog Warns Family of House Fire

A dog in Coventry, Rhode Island, is being hailed as a hero after saving her family from a fire that destroyed their home. The incident occurred on Tuesday, shortly after Brenna Leigh Fournier and her family moved into their house on Town Farm Road.

The fire started in the garage, which contained their grandfather’s woodworking shop. It quickly spread, consuming all of the family’s belongings. Thankfully, Peanut, the family’s dog, sensed danger and began barking loudly. This unusual behavior alerted Fournier’s mother and brother, allowing them to escape the house just in time.

Fournier described Peanut’s barking as a "chest bark," which is not typical for her. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “She deserves all the treats.”

Firefighters responded swiftly, blocking off the road and working to extinguish the flames. Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, they relied on tanker trucks filled with water. Coventry Fire Chief Frank Brown noted that at the height of the fire, they were using about 750 gallons of water per minute.

Fortunately, only one person required treatment at the scene. The Red Cross is now assisting the family, while investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

The story of Peanut’s bravery has resonated with many on social media. One user emphasized the importance of lives over property, saying, “Houses can be replaced. People cannot.”

This incident highlights not only the bond between pets and their owners but also the crucial role animals can play in emergency situations. Peanut’s quick actions likely saved her family’s lives, and she has certainly earned her place as a beloved member of the family.
