Rep. Ralph Norman is considering a run for governor of South Carolina. He shared this news with Fox News Digital on Tuesday, highlighting his eight years of service in Congress. Norman, a Republican from South Carolina, is known for his strong stance on term limits for federal lawmakers. He believes in the need for change in Congress and has expressed his willingness to vote for a temporary funding resolution to prevent a government shutdown.
Standing outside the U.S. Capitol, Norman mentioned that he feels he has done a good job in his current role. He is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and has been a conservative voice since he first won his House seat in 2016, during Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign. Norman emphasized his belief in term limits, stating that he might return to Congress after a potential gubernatorial run.
The prospect of running for governor is appealing to him, especially since he has previously considered challenging longtime Senator Lindsey Graham in a primary. However, a gubernatorial campaign could pit him against fellow House member Nancy Mace, who is also eyeing the same position. Mace has indicated she is seriously contemplating a run for governor as well.
Norman’s interest in the governor’s race marks a significant step in his political ambitions. He has also supported Trump but previously backed Nikki Haley for president before switching his support to Trump after Haley dropped out.
As the political landscape in South Carolina evolves, Norman’s potential candidacy adds another layer of competition for the upcoming governor’s race, where he may face off against other prominent figures, including Attorney General Alan Wilson. Trump’s influence in the state remains strong, but he has yet to publicly comment on the race.
