Eight people were injured Saturday afternoon when a customer drove his car into the showroom of a CarMax dealership in Inglewood. The incident took place just after 2 p.m. on South La Cienega Boulevard, following a dispute between the man and dealership staff.
According to police, two of the injured individuals were taken to trauma centers with critical injuries. The victims included both customers and employees of CarMax. Thankfully, there were no fatalities reported.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the car crashed into the showroom. Video footage shared on social media captured the moment when the vehicle reversed into the building, causing people to scatter in panic. The car then sped through the dealership, leaving a trail of destruction.
One eyewitness, who was shopping for a car at the time, recounted seeing the customer yelling at staff. He waved a metal water bottle in frustration before jumping on the roof of another car. Feeling uncomfortable, the witness and his wife decided to leave the dealership shortly before the crash occurred.
After the incident, the driver fled the scene but later turned himself in at a nearby Los Angeles Police Department training center, according to Inglewood Police Sergeant Cesar Jurado.
CarMax issued a statement expressing concern for the safety of their employees and customers. They stated they are cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation and expressed sadness over the event.
