Two police officers were shot in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday night, resulting in the tragic death of one officer and serious injuries to another. The incident occurred shortly after 6:30 PM near the intersection of Carteret Street and Broadway.
Both officers were rushed to University Hospital, where one was pronounced dead. The injured officer is reported to be in critical condition, according to the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association.

The National Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Joe Gamaldi, lamented the rise in violence against law enforcement, calling the events heartbreaking.
