Dershowitz: We Must Target All Propaganda Academic Programs

On a recent episode of Newsmax TV’s “The Record,” Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz spoke out against federal funding for certain university programs. He praised the Trump administration for cutting $400 million in grants to Columbia University and argued that similar actions should follow for other institutions like Harvard, Yale, NYU, and UCLA. Dershowitz believes these changes could significantly impact higher education.

Dershowitz expressed concern that many universities have shifted from teaching students how to think critically to promoting specific ideological views. He criticized programs like women’s gender studies at Barnard College, which he claims push a particular agenda, stating that they often do not allow for dissenting opinions. He referred to these academic programs as "propaganda mills" rather than genuine educational pursuits.

While Dershowitz acknowledged that some federal funding supports vital research, especially in medicine and science, he argued that too much money goes into programs that he sees as politically motivated. He called for a reevaluation of these bureaucracies and initiatives, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, which he feels are harming the educational landscape.

Dershowitz’s comments reflect a growing debate about the role of ideology in higher education and the allocation of federal funds to universities. He believes that by addressing these issues, colleges can return to their foundational purpose of education rather than advocacy.
