Louisiana Police Probe Hazing Incident Following University Students Death

The Baton Rouge police are looking into the death of a Southern University student, Caleb Wilson, who passed away at the age of 20. His death, which occurred early on February 27, has raised concerns about a possible hazing incident linked to a fraternity.

Caleb Wilson, a junior studying mechanical engineering, was also a member of the university’s well-known marching band, the "Human Jukebox." He died shortly after midnight, and the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office is still investigating the exact cause and circumstances surrounding his death.

Southern University officials announced that they have started their own investigation after hearing rumors about "unsanctioned off-campus activities." These activities are believed to have been organized by the Beta Sigma chapter of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. The university is cooperating fully with local authorities as they look into the matter.

In a statement, the fraternity expressed their condolences and stated they are ready to assist the police during this difficult time. However, it remains unclear if Caleb was a member of the fraternity involved.

John K. Pierre, the chancellor of Southern University, mentioned that an off-campus incident might have played a role in Caleb’s death. The Baton Rouge Police Department has not yet released further details about the investigation.

This tragic event has sparked conversations about hazing and the safety of students in Greek life organizations. Many are hoping for clarity on what happened and how similar incidents can be prevented in the future.
