College football player, 18, from Pittsburgh tragically killed in car accident, according to officials

A tragic car accident in Indiana claimed the life of Mason Alexander, a promising 18-year-old freshman football player set to join the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident, which occurred when a white BMW attempted to pass another vehicle on Saturday night.

According to officials, the driver of the BMW swerved to avoid a collision but ended up sliding through the grass, hitting a tree, and catching fire. Meanwhile, the driver of the other vehicle involved, a Toyota RAV4, struck a mailbox during the incident. Mason Alexander, identified as the BMW driver, sadly did not survive the crash.

Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Mason as a young athlete who had recently joined the university after graduating early from Hamilton Southeastern High School in Indiana. Despite his short time at Pitt, Mason had already made a positive impact on the team and was looking forward to his future as a Panther.

Mason Alexander was a three-star cornerback recruit and had been ranked among the top 300 high school players for the class of 2025. His untimely passing has left the entire Pitt community in mourning, with heartfelt condolences extended to his family, friends, and loved ones.

The tragic loss of Mason Alexander serves as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of cherishing every moment. The Pittsburgh Panthers and the wider sports community will honor his memory as they come together to support one another during this difficult time.
