LeBron James and his son Bronny James have firmly denied all allegations made against them in a lawsuit concerning a car crash that occurred in 2022. The lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court last fall, claims that the father-son duo, both players for the Los Angeles Lakers, were negligent in their ownership and operation of a vehicle involved in the incident. The crash allegedly caused injuries to the plaintiffs, Kiara McGillen and April Lopez, and damage to their vehicle.
In their legal response, filed recently, the James family’s attorneys categorically rejected the claims, stating, “These answering defendants deny each and every allegation contained in the complaint and further deny that plaintiffs have been damaged in the sum or sums alleged, or any other sum or sums, or at all.” The filing includes a series of defenses, asserting that any injuries or damages were caused by other parties or by the plaintiffs themselves failing to act as a reasonably prudent person would.
The lawsuit arises from an incident reported to have taken place on November 13, 2022, at the intersection of Pearblossom Highway and 87th Street in Littlerock, California. Initially, the lawsuit indicated that McGillen was the driver of the vehicle, but it has since been amended to clarify that both she and Lopez were passengers in Lopez’s car during the crash.
Interestingly, the California Highway Patrol’s Antelope Valley office has indicated that it could not locate any accident report from the date in question, raising questions about the incident’s circumstances. The plaintiffs claim they sustained personal injuries that have resulted in ongoing pain and medical expenses, seeking unspecified damages for their suffering.
The lawsuit was filed just a day after LeBron and Bronny made history by becoming the first father-son pair to play in an NBA game together, a milestone that added a layer of public interest to the legal proceedings. As the case unfolds, the James family is not only contesting the allegations but is also seeking reimbursement for legal costs incurred during the lawsuit.
Both sides have yet to provide further comments, but the case continues to attract attention as it intertwines with the high-profile lives of the James family and the Lakers’ ongoing season.
