A tragic shooting occurred early Sunday morning at a mansion party in Woodland Hills, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old boy and injuries to five others. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that officers responded to multiple calls about gunfire at the gathering, which took place around 1:30 a.m. in the 5900 block of Winnetka Avenue.
The event, known as a "flyer party," attracted between 200 and 300 attendees, drawn by advertisements posted in the area. According to LAPD Lieutenant Guy Golan, the party was marketed as a VIP event. Witnesses described a chaotic scene that unfolded after an altercation broke out involving a security guard and the suspected shooter, who was being escorted off the property when he opened fire.
The young victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured included five men aged 19, 21, 25, and two others who were 34 years old. All were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The identities of those involved have not yet been released by authorities.
The mansion, situated at the end of a long driveway off Winnetka Avenue, is an 8,000-square-foot property known for hosting large parties. It is currently listed for rental at $2,100 per night. Lieutenant Golan noted that while the house had previously hosted gatherings, it was not considered a problematic location.
As the investigation continues, police are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. No arrests have been made thus far, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The community is left in shock as they grapple with the violence that erupted during what was meant to be a celebratory event.
