A tragic shooting at a Woodland Hills mansion party early Sunday morning left one teenager dead and five others injured. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at a large gathering that attracted between 200 and 300 attendees, dubbed a “flyer party” due to promotional materials posted in the area.
Los Angeles police responded to multiple reports of gunfire from the mansion located in the 5900 block of Winnetka Avenue. According to Lt. Guy Golan from the LAPD’s homicide unit, an altercation broke out involving a security guard, which led to the suspect being escorted off the property. Witnesses reported that the suspect began firing shots as he was leaving, resulting in chaos among the partygoers.
A 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while five men aged 19, 21, 25, and two others aged 34 were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
The mansion, known for hosting large parties, spans 8,000 square feet and is available for rental at a rate of $2,100 per night. Despite its history of events, police noted that the location was not considered problematic prior to this incident.
Authorities have not made any arrests as of now and are actively interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the scene. They are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about safety at large gatherings, particularly in private venues where security measures may be insufficient. The community is left reeling from the violence, with many expressing shock that such an event could escalate so quickly.
