Norways Crown Princesss Son Faces Charges of Rape and Sexual Assault

Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been charged with serious crimes, including rape and sexual assault. The 28-year-old was arrested in November 2024 following multiple allegations against him. This situation has drawn significant attention, especially given his royal connections.

Oslo police confirmed that Høiby was cooperative during questioning. The investigation lasted several months and involved a substantial amount of evidence, including text messages and witness statements. Prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski revealed that the charges involve one case of rape with intercourse, two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault, and two cases of bodily harm. The prosecutor also mentioned that there are multiple victims, although he did not provide specific numbers.

Høiby’s lawyer acknowledged the seriousness of the accusations but insisted that Høiby does not admit to wrongdoing in most of the cases, particularly those related to sexual abuse and violence. The royal palace has not yet commented on the matter.

The allegations came to light when a woman in her 20s accused Høiby of a sexual act without intercourse, claiming she was unable to resist. This woman did not know Høiby prior to the incident, which has been described as troubling.

At a recent court hearing, the police sought to keep Høiby in custody for an additional two weeks after uncovering another rape allegation. They explained that this new case also involved sexual activity with a woman who was incapable of resisting.

Høiby has faced legal troubles before. Earlier in 2024, he was charged with abuse in close relationships and violating a restraining order. He was arrested after an incident involving a knife found in a woman’s bedroom, where he was accused of causing bodily harm.

In a statement to the media, Prince Haakon, Høiby’s stepfather and heir to the throne, expressed concern for Høiby and emphasized the importance of proper handling by the police and judicial system. He also noted that the family is worried about Høiby’s well-being and is hopeful he will receive the help he needs.

Høiby was born before Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s marriage to Prince Haakon in 2001, which means he does not hold a royal title or carry out official duties. The ongoing legal issues surrounding him raise questions about the impact on the royal family and their public image.
