Israel Launches Airstrikes on Southern Lebanon Amid Ongoing Conflict with Iran and Gaza Offensive

Israeli airstrikes hit several areas in southern Lebanon on Monday, targeting villages like Zrariyeh, Kfar Milki, and Ansar. The National News Agency of Lebanon reported that the strikes focused on open spaces outside these towns. Thankfully, there were no immediate reports of casualties from the attacks.

These airstrikes were noted to be more intense than the usual operations Israel conducts, which have been frequent since the November 2024 ceasefire that ended a prolonged conflict with Hezbollah. The Israeli military claimed it aimed at rocket launchers and an arms depot belonging to Hezbollah, but did not provide any evidence to support these claims.

Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, warned last week that the group might take "appropriate" actions if tensions with Israel and Iran escalate further. However, Hezbollah has not yet engaged militarily in the ongoing conflict.

In Beirut, demonstrators gathered for a rally in support of Iran following Friday prayers, showing solidarity amid rising tensions. Al Jazeera confirmed the occurrence of the Israeli bombings through verified video footage from the affected areas.

Earlier this month, Israel had already launched a series of strikes targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs. This led to many residents fleeing their homes just before the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, after a forced evacuation order was issued. Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, had previously stated that there would be no peace in Beirut or stability in Lebanon unless Hezbollah disarmed.

This recent airstrike marks yet another chapter in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the fragile situation in the region and the potential for further escalation.
