Ex-Coast Guard Officer Detained for Alleged Threats to Assassinate Trump, According to FBI

A former Coast Guard lieutenant has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump. The suspect, Peter Stinson, is from Virginia and served in the Coast Guard from 1988 until 2021. During his military career, he was a sharpshooter and a FEMA instructor.

The FBI has revealed details of Stinson’s online threats in an affidavit filed recently. He reportedly made multiple disturbing posts on social media, suggesting violent actions against Trump. One of his posts included a reference to needing to "Luigied," which alludes to a past murder case involving a different individual.

Stinson’s threats included graphic descriptions involving guns and knives. He also mentioned feeling unqualified to carry out an assassination but hinted that he might not be entirely honest about his capabilities.

The investigation into Stinson’s threats intensified when he made references to "8647," a phrase linked to a controversial Instagram post by former FBI Director James Comey. This post was interpreted as a violent threat against Trump, leading to a federal investigation.

In addition to his threats, Stinson has self-identified as a member of ANTIFA and made posts suggesting that violence is necessary in political conflicts. His most recent post on BlueSky indicated that he believed Trump’s death would significantly impact the political landscape.

Stinson has been charged with making threats against the president and is scheduled to appear in federal court soon. This case highlights ongoing concerns about threats to public officials and the serious nature of such actions.
