Premier Danielle Smith to Welcome World Leaders Arriving in Alberta for G7 Summit

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is ready to welcome world leaders as they arrive at Calgary airport for the G7 summit. This significant event will take place over three days in the scenic Kananaskis wilderness, located southwest of Calgary. Leaders are expected to start arriving on Sunday.

Smith’s office has announced that she will host a reception for representatives from non-member countries on Monday evening in Calgary. Throughout the summit, she will also hold various bilateral meetings, although specific details about these meetings have not been shared.

The premier has made international relations a key focus of her administration. Earlier this year, she gained attention for visiting former U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida before he took office, aiming to address potential tariffs on Canadian goods. In April, she met with officials in Japan and South Korea to promote Alberta’s energy and food exports.

Just recently, Smith was in Washington, D.C., where she participated in discussions on energy as Trump raised tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. She noted a positive shift in conversations about Canada’s role in supporting U.S. energy goals.

The G7 summit brings together leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the European Union. Canada is hosting the summit this year from June 15 to 17, having assumed the presidency of the group for 2025. Prime Minister Mark Carney has the privilege of inviting leaders from outside the G7, which includes guests like Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As the summit approaches, there are preparations underway to ensure the event runs smoothly, showcasing Alberta to the world.
