"Traveling to LAX Without a Car? Metro Unveils Long-Awaited LAX Station"

On Friday, Los Angeles took a significant step toward improving transportation options for travelers with the opening of the LAX/Metro Transit Center. This new facility is located at the intersection of Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street and aims to connect the city’s extensive Metro rail system directly to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The transit center will serve as a crucial link for passengers. Until the Automated People Mover opens next year, free shuttle buses will run every 10 minutes, transporting travelers between the center and the airport. This connection is part of a broader plan to enhance access to one of the busiest airports in the world.

The construction of the transit center cost around $900 million and features a 16-bay bus plaza equipped with electric bus infrastructure, as well as a bicycle hub for eco-friendly travelers. Metro parking lots nearby will provide short-term parking options for those who need them.

During the opening ceremony, city officials celebrated the project as a long-awaited improvement. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass emphasized the importance of this development, stating that it required collaboration across various levels of government. She expressed hope that this new transit option would meet the needs of both Angelenos and international travelers.

Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins highlighted the necessity of a world-class transit system, especially for visitors arriving at LAX. She noted that the new center will facilitate easier access to the airport, aligning with expectations for modern public transportation.

The transit center opens to the public at 5 p.m., and to celebrate, Metro is offering free rides across its system throughout the weekend. This initiative is part of Metro’s larger plan to enhance transit options ahead of major events, including the FIFA World Cup in 2026 and the Olympics in 2028.

While the people mover train is still under construction, the transit center marks a significant milestone in connecting LAX to the city’s rail network. This long-awaited connection has been a topic of discussion for years, and many hope it will ease congestion and improve access for travelers.
