Baldwin Park Shooting: One Officer Dead, Another Injured

One police officer was killed and another was injured during a shooting in Baldwin Park on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 7:12 p.m. when Baldwin Park police responded to reports of a man firing a rifle near Filhurst Avenue.

Upon arrival, the officers were met with gunfire. During the exchange, one officer was fatally shot, and the other sustained injuries. The second officer has since been released from the hospital and is recovering with family. The deceased officer was remembered as an avid snowboarder and a loyal Dodgers fan.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials are investigating the shooting, which they are treating as a double homicide. A male victim, who has not been identified, was also found dead at the scene. The suspect was injured and is now in custody.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots. Video footage captured eleven shots fired shortly after the officers arrived. A local resident initially thought the gunfire was fireworks until seeing police vehicles flood the area.

Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert A. López expressed his grief during a press conference, stating, “It’s extremely tragic to have to deal with this.” He confirmed that the police have recovered the weapon used in the shooting.
