Road Closures and Detours for the Christmas Parade

The Town of Lexington is gearing up for its annual Christmas Parade, scheduled for Sunday, December 4, which will bring festive cheer and community spirit to downtown Lexington. Chief Terrence Green has announced that road closures and detours will be implemented to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the event.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m., West Butler Street will be closed from Columbia Avenue to North Church Street, allowing participants to prepare for the parade. In addition, Haygood Avenue and portions of Meetze Street will also be closed for float staging and setup. The Lexington County Extension Office parking lot, located at 605 West Main Street, will remain closed throughout the day for this purpose.

The parade, which is set to kick off at 3:00 p.m., will follow a route from Haygood Avenue to West Main Street/US-1, continuing onto North Lake Drive/SC-6. Spectators are encouraged to gather along West Main Street, particularly from Haygood Avenue to the intersection with Lake Drive, for the best views of the festivities.

To facilitate the parade, several key intersections will close at 2:45 p.m., including West Main Street from Columbia Avenue to North Lake Drive, East Main Street at Harmon Street, North Lake Drive at Dreher Street, and South Lake Drive at Fort Street. These closures will help keep the parade route clear as the event unfolds.

Roads are expected to reopen around 4:30 p.m., although West Butler Street will remain closed until all parade floats and participants have exited the area. Attendees are advised to arrive early to secure parking and seating along the parade route, as this popular event tends to draw large crowds. Public parking lots in the vicinity are recommended, as parking in private lots may result in towing at the owner’s expense.

With the community’s enthusiastic participation, the Town of Lexington’s Christmas Parade promises to be a highlight of the holiday season, showcasing the spirit of togetherness and celebration in the heart of the town.
