Police Recover $500,000 in Stolen Sports Cards, Including Signed Hank Aaron Jersey

Police in El Segundo have made significant strides in tackling a wave of thefts targeting high-value sports gear and memorabilia. Recently, they arrested two suspects believed to be behind a series of thefts, including a haul of stolen Dodgers jackets worth approximately $1,500.

The latest arrest occurred on a Friday when officers were investigating a theft in the 700 block of Pacific Coast Highway. They spotted a vehicle with a man and woman inside just a short distance from the location of the crime. Upon stopping the vehicle, police confirmed the pair were the suspects and recovered the stolen items from inside.

This arrest follows another major incident just a week prior. On April 10, police responded to a grand theft report at a business on Center Street. There, they apprehended a man and woman who were allegedly involved in stealing a signed Hank Aaron baseball jersey along with an astonishing $500,000 worth of sports cards from a storage unit.

When officers arrived at the scene, a man matching the suspect’s description attempted to flee but ran straight into more police. After a struggle, he was taken into custody. During the arrest, officers found a loaded handgun on him, leading to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, along with several other offenses including possession of stolen property and narcotics.

Police also detained a woman at the scene, who was found to have a history of prior convictions related to stolen property and narcotics. Investigators linked both suspects to other thefts in the area, including the stolen jersey and valuable sports cards.

The El Segundo Police Department is actively working to address these thefts and ensure the safety of local businesses and residents. As the investigation continues, they encourage anyone with information about these crimes to come forward.
