Former President Donald Trump recently underwent a thorough medical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The nearly five-hour check-up included blood tests, cardiac assessments, and ultrasounds, all aimed at evaluating his overall health.
Dr. Sean Barbabella, a US Navy emergency physician who has served in combat zones, reported that Trump is in excellent physical and cognitive health. In a memo released by the White House, Dr. Barbabella stated that Trump is fully fit to carry out his duties as President. The examination included neurological tests, which showed no signs of depression or anxiety. Notably, Trump scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a test designed to identify cognitive decline.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump expressed confidence in his health, saying he answered all the questions correctly on the cognitive test. He remarked, "Overall, I felt I was in very good shape," adding that he received some lifestyle advice from his doctors to enhance his well-being.
The medical report did reveal some minor issues. Trump has "minor sun damage" and a few benign skin lesions. He is currently taking medications to manage his cholesterol, including Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe, as well as Aspirin for heart health and Mometasone cream for his skin condition. His cardiac exam showed no abnormalities, although he has a history of well-controlled high cholesterol, which can increase heart attack risk.
In terms of physical metrics, Trump weighs 224 pounds and stands 6 feet 2.5 inches tall, marking a decrease from 243 pounds in February 2019. His current weight places him in the overweight category, but not in the obese range. Dr. Barbabella noted that Trump’s joints and muscles have a full range of motion, crediting his active lifestyle, which includes frequent golf outings.
This medical report is the first public update on Trump’s health since an incident last July when a gunman tried to attack him during a campaign rally, resulting in a minor injury. Previously, during his presidency, Trump’s health was also a topic of discussion, with doctors suggesting he needed to lose weight and exercise more.
As Trump continues to engage in political activities, his health remains a focal point, especially as he has often criticized President Joe Biden regarding cognitive and physical fitness. Biden has not committed to taking a cognitive test while in office, further fueling discussions on health in the political arena.
