New Book Claims Biden Aides Scripted Everything, Leading to Atrophy of His Abilities

In a new book titled "Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History," author Chris Whipple reveals troubling insights about former President Joe Biden’s cognitive health during his presidency. Whipple, a former producer for CBS’s "60 Minutes," claims that the White House’s efforts to limit Biden’s interactions with others may have negatively impacted his mental acuity.

The book discusses how aides restricted Biden’s access to friends and allies, believing it would prevent him from making misstatements that could fuel concerns about his age and mental sharpness. However, this strategy backfired, leading to what Whipple describes as a decline in Biden’s cognitive function. He notes that even acquaintances like former White House chief of staff Bill Daley were kept from seeing Biden, as visits were tightly controlled and scripted.

Whipple’s account suggests that isolating Biden was a significant mistake. One White House aide reportedly expressed concern that keeping Biden away from the public allowed his mental faculties to deteriorate. The aide remarked that just like knives need to be sharpened by use, Biden’s cognitive abilities required engagement with the outside world to remain sharp.

The book also chronicles Biden’s 2024 presidential campaign, particularly focusing on his performance during a debate with Donald Trump on June 27, 2024. This debate was pivotal and ultimately led to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race in July. Following the debate, Biden participated in an interview with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, aiming to reassure the public about his mental fitness. However, Whipple describes Biden’s responses as "semi-coherent," raising further doubts about his capabilities.

In a candid reflection, Stephanopoulos later described the experience of interviewing Biden as "heartbreaking." The book highlights the pressures Biden faced as he tried to maintain his image amid growing scrutiny over his age and mental health.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Whipple’s revelations add a layer of complexity to the ongoing discussions about leadership and age in politics. The insights from "Uncharted" serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by those in high office, particularly when it comes to public perception and personal health.
