A Sunny, Warm Weekend Awaits, But L.A. Will See More Rain First

Parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties are set to experience some rain on Thursday, just before a warm and sunny weekend arrives. According to meteorologist Bryan Lewis from the National Weather Service, light showers began in eastern Ventura County on Wednesday afternoon. There’s a 50% chance of more rain in the valleys and mountains of Los Angeles County on Thursday afternoon, with the possibility of thunderstorms.

The expected rainfall is light, with estimates suggesting no more than a quarter of an inch may fall. For areas like downtown Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Downey, the chance of rain is lower, around 10% to 20%, with temperatures expected to be in the low to mid-60s.

This rain is not expected to pose any risks for landslides in regions affected by recent wildfires, such as the Palisades and Eaton fires that occurred in January.

Lewis predicts that the clouds will clear by Saturday, leading to a warm-up with temperatures rising to the mid-70s and low 80s in the valleys. Coastal areas will see slightly cooler temperatures, remaining in the high 60s. By Sunday, most parts of Los Angeles County could reach the low 80s.

This brief rain event comes shortly after state officials announced that California’s snowpack is at 96% of average as of April 1, marking the third consecutive year of adequate snow levels. This is a positive sign for water supplies in the state, which has not seen such consistency in snowpack levels for 25 years.
