A Warm and Sunny Weekend Awaits, but L.A. Will Experience More Rain First

Parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties are bracing for some April showers on Thursday, but the weekend is expected to bring warmer and sunnier weather. Light rain began falling in eastern Ventura County on Wednesday afternoon, and forecasters predict a 50% chance of more rain in the valleys and mountains of Los Angeles County on Thursday.

According to Bryan Lewis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, the rain will be light, with no more than a quarter of an inch expected. There’s also a slight chance of thunderstorms in the area. However, for places like downtown Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Downey, the likelihood of rain is much lower, around 10% to 20%, with temperatures hovering in the low to mid-60s.

The rainfall is not expected to pose a risk of landslides in areas affected by recent wildfires, such as the Palisades and Eaton fires. Lewis noted that the storm clouds should clear by Saturday, paving the way for a warm and dry trend. Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-70s and low 80s in the valleys, while coastal areas will remain cooler, reaching the high 60s.

This brief rainstorm comes just days after state officials reported that California’s snowpack is at 96% of average for this time of year, which is promising for water supplies. This marks the third consecutive year of near-average or above-average snow levels in the Sierra Nevada, a welcome sign for the state’s water resources.

As Los Angeles prepares for the rain, residents can look forward to a sunny weekend ahead, making it a perfect time to enjoy the outdoors after the brief wet spell.
