The Los Angeles area is bracing for light rain on Monday morning, with forecasters predicting that the precipitation will start late Sunday evening. This rain is expected to ease by Monday afternoon, but residents can expect cooler temperatures to stick around for the week.
Kristan Lund, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, explained that Sunday will begin mostly cloudy, transitioning into rain overnight. The forecast indicates that the area could see between a quarter to half an inch of rain, particularly in the foothills, where the amounts may be on the higher end.
The heaviest rain is anticipated around 10 or 11 p.m. on Sunday, tapering off to light showers in the morning. Lund reassured residents that the rainfall is not expected to cause significant issues, particularly in areas prone to debris flow. “Thankfully, no concerns,” she stated.
This weather pattern is being driven by a system moving in from the Pacific Northwest, bringing not only rain but also below-average temperatures. In Los Angeles and Ventura counties, temperatures are expected to be five to twelve degrees below normal. Lund noted that this cooler weather could last through much of the week, with a return to more typical temperatures by the weekend.
Residents should prepare for a chilly week ahead, even as the rain subsides. With the light rain not posing a threat to wildfire burn areas, many can look forward to a refreshing change from the recent dry spell.
