US Surgeon in Gaza: Wounded Palestinians Dying Due to Supply Shortages

A recent Israeli military offensive has resulted in devastating injuries to two teenagers, highlighting the severe human cost of the conflict. Dr. Perlmutter, a physician working in the affected area, recounted the harrowing experiences of both victims, who were treated in different hospitals just a week apart.

One of the victims, a 15-year-old girl, was riding her bicycle alone when she was struck by gunfire from an Israeli military helicopter. Witnesses reported that she arrived at the hospital severely injured, with catastrophic wounds to her leg and arm. Dr. Perlmutter expressed his concern, stating that she would be fortunate if she retains three of her limbs.

The second victim, a boy of the same age, was in a car with his grandmother when they received evacuation warnings. Tragically, their vehicle was attacked by Apache gunships. The boy’s grandmother was killed instantly, and the boy suffered life-threatening injuries. He lost a foot and endured extensive surgery on his left side, which included vascular and nerve repairs. Unfortunately, the nerve repair failed, leading to the amputation of his hand at the elbow. He also sustained a chest wound and faces a long road to recovery, with multiple surgeries ahead.

Dr. Perlmutter shared graphic images of the injuries sustained by both the girl and the boy, illustrating the brutality of the attacks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded to these incidents, stating that they do not target civilians and operate in line with international law. They emphasized their commitment to only targeting military objectives and claimed they had not received sufficient information to address the specific cases mentioned by Dr. Perlmutter.

As the situation continues to unfold, the human toll of the conflict remains painfully evident, raising questions about the impact of military actions on innocent lives.
