Authorities are searching for two men who escaped from their reentry programs in Los Angeles County after tampering with their ankle monitors. The incidents occurred on Friday, when officials realized that Jose Arroyo, 39, had altered his monitor and was missing around 5 a.m. Later that evening, a similar alert was received for Deshon R. Daniels, 26.
Both men were part of a voluntary program designed for individuals nearing the end of their prison sentences. This program allows inmates with two years or less left to serve their time in a community center, where they receive support for reintegration into society, including help with finding jobs and housing.
It is unclear whether Arroyo and Daniels were housed in the same facility, as there are three Male Community Reentry Program centers in the county. Both men were serving sentences for second-degree robbery.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is actively looking for the two men. The situation raises concerns about the effectiveness of the reentry program and the monitoring systems in place to ensure compliance among participants.
