Four Injured in Stabbing Incident in Amsterdam, Authorities Report

At least five people were injured in a stabbing incident in Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon. The attack occurred near the bustling Dam Square, a popular area for both locals and tourists. Police quickly arrested one suspect at the scene.

The victims include a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man, both American citizens. A 26-year-old man from Poland, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium, and a 19-year-old woman from Amsterdam were also hurt. The attack took place around 3:30 PM local time.

Authorities initially reported four serious injuries, but later clarified that five people were wounded, including the suspect, who also sustained injuries. A trauma helicopter was dispatched to the square to assist the victims, and emergency services set up a significant presence in the area.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police are investigating whether the suspect targeted victims randomly. They have not ruled out any possibilities as they work to understand what led to this violent act.

After the incident, Dam Square was cordoned off for about two hours while investigations were conducted. It has since reopened to the public.
